Abstract. The article examines the poorly investigated in domestic sinology problem of interrelation of classical poetry and poets’ adhesion to wine as a source of inspiration and a means to expand consciousness. The author analyses works of the famous Tang Dynasty (618-907) poets who sought to go beyond the ordinary and to accentuate the need for harmony between a man and the nature. The social role of wine drinking as a means to strengthen friendly and creative ties among the educated classes is revealed. Special attention is paid to the "poet of wine" Li Bo who considered the relation of wine and poetry from the philosophical viewpoint.
