Abstract. Comics as the symbiosis of the literary genre and visual art, repudiated by the Soviet ideology, for a long period were not officially recognized in the domestic scientific community. However, the study indicates that comics in the USSR not only existed but were used rather efficiently as an instrument to influence the Soviet citizens’ mass consciousness. The article analyses the Soviet comics, identifies the basic strategies of using them to influence mass consciousness, and proposes practical recommendations for their usage under the modern conditions.
