Essential and content-related characteristics of a creative-functional methodology for teaching academic writing in Russian to foreign students in pre-university courses: Theoretical foundations

Abstract. The work aims to present the theoretical foundations of an original creative-functional methodology for teaching academic writing in Russian to foreign students in pre-university courses: its goal, functions, and principles. The paper reveals the conceptual features of creativity and functionality as the main characteristics of the methodology in question, problematizing the very term “a creative-functional methodology for developing foreign students’ speech skills in academic writing”. The scientific novelty of the work lies in determining the essential characteristics of a creative-functional methodology for teaching academic writing to foreign nationals. As a result, the prolonged nature of the methodology in question is ascertained, which is determined by its prospect, i.e., the logical continuation of its use in the context of teaching academic writing to foreign students in the main courses at the university.
