Morphemic Analysis of Lexical Units as a Method of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language to Future Linguists

Abstract. The aim of the research is to substantiate, from the point of view of the semantic transparency of the modern Chinese language vocabulary, the rationality of using the method of morphemic analysis when introducing and explaining the meaning of lexical units to students of the training program 45.03.02 Linguistics. This research considers 4 levels of semantic transparency of the Chinese vocabulary, analyses the possibility or impossibility of using the morphemic analysis method, which involves explaining the meaning of a compound Chinese word through explaining the meaning of the morphemes that make it up, as well as the grammatical relationships that underlie the combination of morphemes into compound words. Based on the semantic transparency of the Chinese vocabulary, methodological recommendations are proposed that are applicable when introducing and explaining the meaning of complex words in the Chinese language, aimed at increasing the concentration of students’- future linguists’ attention, repeating and consolidating previously studied material, developing the skills of analysing lexical units from the point of view of word-formation and semantic structures. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the systematic study of the semantic transparency of the Chinese vocabulary as one of its main features and its practical application when introducing new vocabulary and explaining the meaning of compound words. As a result of the research, it was proved that the implementation of the morphemic analysis method when introducing and explaining the meaning of complex words allows increasing the concentration of students’ attention, involving them in the process of analysing new words. This contributes to the repetition and consolidation of previously studied material, deepening the knowledge of students - future linguists about the word-formation features of the Chinese language, forms the skills of analysing complex lexical units and significantly increases the speed of memorizing lexical units by students.
