Difficulties of Teaching the Scientific Style of Speech to Foreign Students: Characteristics, Types, Trends (by the Survey of Russian as a Foreign Language Teachers)

Abstract. The purpose of the study is to identify and analyse the difficulties of mastering the scientific style of speech (SSS) by foreign students. The paper presents a linguodidactic questionnaire and describes the results of a survey of Russian as a Foreign Language teachers working in a group of undergraduate students from China, Guinea-Bissau, Egypt, Afghanistan (from first year to third year students). Scientific novelty lies in developing a linguodidactic questionnaire to identify the issues faced by teachers in the process of teaching the SSS to the specified body of students, in classifying and describing the types of difficulties they encounter in the process of teaching the SSS, as well as in identifying the existing trends in the context of the stated issue. Notably, as a result of the study, it has been found that students from the PRC experience difficulties in mastering the SSS more often than others (compared with students from Guinea-Bissau, Egypt, Afghanistan).
