Abstract. The article is devoted to the problem of using the English SMS language when teaching English to pedagogical students. It is shown that penetration of the SMS language in educational process has both positive and negative aspects: the SMS language can hamper the standard language acquisition by students with poor linguistic competence; at the same time, this language has penetrated into modern life and is essential for successful communication with native speakers. The paper examines the peculiarities of the SMS language and its usage in different types of sentences. Relying on the findings, the author proposes a model of teaching the English SMS language to pedagogical students.
