Abstract. The purpose of the article is a retrospective review of jazz styles of the 1950s. The study of this period is relevant as it changed aesthetics of jazz art, opened the era of cultural dialogue - classics and jazz, jazz and Latin-American music. From literature devoted to the history of jazz this article differs in the sense of concentration on a specific historical period. The authors conclude that jazz of the 1950s developed in the direction of sophistication and democratization and became a basis for revolutionary changes in music in the 1960s.
