Abstract. The article examines the stage interpretations of I. Stravinsky‘s opera "The Nightingale": stage version by Robert Lepage and film-opera by Christian Shaudet. The principles of performance theatre are traceable in the dramaturgy and especially stage interpretations of opera. The authors analyze synesthetic relations between the compositional plane, visuals and soundtracks of the opera scripts. It is shown that the conception of opposition of two elements - living and artificial - is realized in stage versions by synesthetic contrasting of visual (colour and light) and spatial - plastic components.
