Abstract. The article is devoted to the problem of analyzing the Russian avant-garde of the first third of the XX century. The author proposes to use the iconographic method of the works analysis as the basic research method. The iconographic method that has previously been used to study classical art is rarely applied while analyzing the art of "esthetics of opposition". Moreover, if the style-formative significance of the Old Russian tradition for the classical domestic avant-garde was much spoken of, then the problem of studying the iconography of the Russian avant-garde is still relevant.
