Abstract. In the article fragmentary biographical information about the little-studied in national musicology Italian musician C. Gervasoni (1762-1819) is collected and systematized for the first time. His treatise "La scuola della musica" is considered in the context of the course of life and creative development of the author. The presented musical-theoretical theses of the treatise acquaint the reader with the scientific principles of the Italian theory of music at the turn of the XVIII-XIX centuries, in particular, they represent the theoretical views of Italian musicians to the principles of the structure of the sonata form and its genre peculiarities.
