Abstract. The paper is devoted to analyzing three conceptions crucial for understanding esotericism: esotericism, magic and mysticism. Within the framework of the article these conceptions are described and analyzed in broad context presupposing the identification of their relations with the other spheres of the western culture - religion and science. Relying on A. Versluis’s approach the author proposes an idea, according to which esotericism should be considered as a special "marginal territory" between science and religion, within which the interaction of different world-views takes place.
