MANIPULATIVE CHARACTER OF MASS MEDIA MEANS AND DEMOCRACY

Abstract. The article studies the factor of mass media means impact on democratic process in Russia. Two basic positions in relation to the role of mass media in modern democracy are revealed. In accordance with the first one mass media form communication environment, within which people can make their independent political choice. Particular attention is paid to the second position, which adherents have a pessimistic attitude towards mass media that often use manipulative techniques.
