Abstract. In the article the philosophical and sociological analysis of the development of utopian ideas in the European early Middle Ages is given. Significant attention is drawn to the thoughts on the impact of eschatology, chiliasm, and religious apocalyptics on the formation of the social ideal of the early Middle Ages. During this period utopian ideal received not only religious and moral justification, but also one of the first attempts of practical realization in the form of the creation of monastic communities.
