The Rachmaninov Institute in Tambov
Abstract. The article examines three versions of Piano Sonata № 2 b-moll by S. V. Rachmaninoff, two of which belong to the composer, and "the third" - to the pianist V. S. Horowitz. The author compares the interpretations of the Sonata from the viewpoint of dramaturgic and compositional structure. As a result of the research it is concluded that the changes of the material of the Sonata in the second and "third" versions differ by strengthening the dramatic beginning and consequently the intensive compression of the form.
