OPERATIC "MODERN TREND" OF THE 1920S AND ITS RECEPTION

Abstract. The article is devoted to the experience of staging "modern" West European operas on the soviet stage in the 1920s, first of all, in the Mikhaylovsky Theatre and in the State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet (the Mariinsky Theatre) in Leningrad. The author examines the reception of operatic "modern trend" in the soviet art and art criticism of the 1930-1950s, reconsiders the role of this phenomenon in the development of national musical theatre.
