DEATH PENALTY AS DEPOSITION OF MAN TO "ELEMENTARY NATURE": ANALYSIS OF ENLIGHTENING DEISM OF EPICURUS
Lyashchenko Maksim Nikolaevich
Orenburg State University
Abstract. The article is devoted to the analysis of the phenomenon of death penalty in the enlightening deism of Epicurus. The author substantiates the idea that death penalty was interpreted as purposeful social practice with the aim to 'return' a man to the chaotic bottoms of nature (to atoms). Thus, epicurism interpreted a man as an actual natural human being "included" in the closed and self-contained "cycle" of life and death, in which he, like all "things", was subjected to the natural law of "decay" that deposed everything to the elementary forms of existence.
Key words and phrases: смертная казнь, Эпикур, просвещенный деизм, смерть, закон "распада", death penalty, Epicurus, enlightened deism, death, law of "decay"
