Abstract. The author considers the questions of new composition forms in the music of the XX th century, in particular, by the material of the French theorist-performer Olivier Messiaen’s organ creative works considers the notion of meditation, in relation to it touches upon the question of open and closed forms in the music of the XX th century, and comes to the conclusion that as one of the most characteristic features of the composer’s style, it becomes not only a new category of form and musical implementation, but also incorporates all the basic complex of Messiaen’s artistic-aesthetic views on the musical world and its laws.
