Abstract. The author analyzes the features of the squares architectural ensembles of public centers in towns-plants on the basis of regular plans, believes that the planning principle of squares forming during that period is classicism with understanding the town as a complex, but single social, economic and artistic organism, and comes to the conclusion that the Siberian architects turned squares into the works of town planning art by means of the revelation of space and the creation of distant visual perspectives.
