Abstract. The article is devoted to the questions of genre synthesis in the Italian opera of the first half of the XIX th century based on the biblical plot. The author analyzes the principles of genre interaction between opera and spiritual oratorio, reveals the origins of this phenomenon, the history of its existence in the West-European music, and the role of Holy Scriptures plots embodiment. The material for the study is based on the operas "Moses in Egypt" by J. Rossini and "Nebuchadnezzar" by G. Verdi. According to the analysis of different levels of the works architectonics the conclusions about the dominance of oratorio component in the performance of the Old Testament conceptions are made.
