CULT OF POWER IN CHINA AND CHALLENGES OF PEOPLE'S RELIGIOUS CULTURE

Abstract. The author studies the phenomenon of power sacralization in China basing on the monopolization of transcendent sphere access, pays particular attention to the cult of the ruler and to the cult of the Sky associated with it, considers the features of people's religious culture, which periodically challenged the imperial state power developing alternative conceptions and practices of sacred powers access, concludes that Confucian attitudes, Taoist practices, Buddhist world view and atheism coexist in modern Chinese ethos, and shows that current power has monopolized the vision of technocratic future, but ancient cosmology remains significant for people's culture, and such worldview dichotomy is fraught with conflict situations.
