Abstract. The author gives the brief overview of the Byzantine education content and discusses the question of Platonic Academy closing in Athens during the reign of Justinian, presents the research results that show historical attitude to education as a strategic component of any society, mentions that nowadays the question of education institution is critical and urgent as well, and suggests considering educational policy at the level of national security, rather than as a secondary public element.
