TRADITIONAL AND NEW THEORIES OF REFERENCE: SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES

Abstract. The author presents the different interpretations analysis of the content of the notions meaning and reference in the theory of sign systems, basing on the analysis concludes that the theory of reference by H. Putnam, the theory of language games by L. Wittgenstein and semiotics by Ch. Peirce, despite methodological differences, in general similarly interpret the notions of meaning and reference in the effort to overcome mentalistic element, and tells that the meaning of a sign is understood as the way of its use and interpretation.
