KANG YOUWEI, CONFUCIAN CHURCH AND CHRISTIAN MISSIONARIES: ABOUT ONE LITTLE-KNOWN PAGE IN HISTORY

Abstract. The author considers the little-known aspect of the activity of the great Chinese reformer - Kang Youwei (1858-1927) - who suggested to transform Confucianism into state religion organized per sample of Christian churches during the period of the movement for reforms in 1898. It happened under the influence of western missionaries but Kang Youwei treated their theories selectively and from the pragmatic point of view.
