Abstract. The paper deals with the interaction of English-speaking participants in which they argue their positions about a piece of art (based on the BBC 1 documentary series “Fake or Fortune”). The aim of the study is to analyse features of argumentative interaction and identify the linguistic means of persuasiveness in the speech of discourse participants based on a BBC TV series. The novelty lies in the representation of linguistic argumentative features in the interaction of English-speaking non/experts in the field of art. As a result, the discourse genres of “request”, “offer” and “information exchange” during communication have been identified and analysed. The prevailing strategies and tactics for organizing these discourse genres have been established. The role of cognitive and pragmatic mechanisms in persuasion is noted. The verbal means, which identify the important semantic components in communication, are described.
