Abstract. The research aim is to identify the ellipsis of the participle as one of the means of linguistic compression particularly characteristic of the English-language journalistic economic discourse. The research is novel in that it is the first one to discover the ellipsis of the participle in all types of participle constructions, as well as the ellipsis of the subject noun phrase in absolute constructions with and without participles. As a result, possible explicates for the omitted participles have been determined. The following phenomena have been discovered: the indefinite-personal subjectless construction with and without the participle; ellipsis of the noun phrase in the no¬minative absolute participle construction; omission of the noun phrase in the elliptical absolute nominative construction (with its possible explicates presented); ellipsis of the existential complex ‘there being’ in the prepositional nominative absolute participle construction; a new variant of how to begin the translation of postpositional participle constructions: for the dependent participle phrase – “(и) тем самым” ((and) thus), “(и) тем самым помогая/способствуя” ((and) thereby helping/contributing), “хотя” (although), for the absolute participle nominative construction – “однако” (however), “хотя” (although), “а именно” (namely), for the prepositional participle construction – “а именно” (namely); ellipsis of the preposition ‘by’ in a non-finite adjunct clause.
Key words and phrases: эллипсис причастия, зависимый и независимый причастный оборот, неопределенно-личный бессубъектный причастный оборот, экспликация, англоязычный экономический дискурс, ellipsis of the participle, participle phrase, absolute participle nominative construction, indefinite-personal subjectless participle phrase, explication, English-language economic discourse
