Abstract. The research aims to identify similarities and differences in phraseological units with the component “mountain” in the Polish and Norwegian languages, based on a comparative analysis. The aim is to reveal similarities stemming from the shared cultural heritage of Antiquity and Christianity, as well as coincidences in the worldviews of Poles and Norwegians, and differences caused by cultural differentiation. The scientific novelty of this research lies in the fact that for the first time, phraseological units with the component “mountain” in Polish and Norwegian have been classified and described. Common and specific features, as well as the conceptual, imagery-related, and value-based characteristics of understanding phraseological units in Polish and Norwegian linguocultures were identified. As a result of the comparative analysis, thematic groups of phraseological units with the component “mountain” have been identified (ancient units; religious units; landscape-related units; units denoting a mountain as a remote space). It was found that the greatest number of common features is observed in the pan-European layer of phraseological units, which is due to the shared cultural and Christian heritage of European countries. On the other hand, differences are noted in phraseological units where a mountain represents a geographical object, which is related to the different semantics of the lexeme “mountain” in Polish and Norwegian.
