Abstract. The aim of this study is to reveal the modern processes of transformation of the insufficiently studied toponymy of Chile. The article highlights the main features of these transformations, including renaming of hodonyms, agoronyms and other place names. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that for the first time a linguocultural analysis of Chilean neotoponyms has been carried out, which allowed us to identify the current trends characteristic of the national toponymic policy carried out over the last 10 years. The article considers street renaming as a process of creating new linguoconcepts of the urban environment reflecting cultural and historical changes in society. The study finds that hodonyms show a pronounced anthropocentricity, as they are often dedicated to famous personalities whose names and deeds are significant to national history and culture. The study of toponymic identity helps to analyze the extent to which new names are accepted by local residents. Understanding how residents perceive these changes, and how their willing of accepting new names is important in shaping successful language policies.
