The lexico-semantic field of the STUDENT concept in the pedagogical discourse of F. A. Vigdorova (based on the prose from the 1950s-1960s)

Abstract. The study aims to determine the role of the lexico-semantic field of the STUDENT concept in the pedagogical discourse of F. A. Vigdorova (based on the prose from the 1950s-1960s). The study establishes the frequency of the lexeme “student” and words representing the STUDENT concept; examines lexicographic data of these words; analyzes their semantics; and identifies functional equivalents of the naming unit “student” in Vigdorova’s pedagogical discourse. The methods of description, statistical counting, and elements of component analysis are employed. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the first-time consideration of participants in pedagogical discourse (“students”) in Vigdorova’s prose from the 1950s-1960s. The results reveal that the lexico-semantic field of the STUDENT concept in Vigdorova’s pedagogical discourse is represented by the following lexico-semantic groups: “Students of Secondary Education Institutions”, “Students of Specialized Education Institutions”, and “Students of Higher Education Institutions”. The first two groups are the most frequent, which is due to Vigdorova’s professional activities as a teacher and journalist, who has extensive knowledge of the existing education system. The words representing the STUDENT concept form the basis of the mental-linguistic complex of Vigdorova’s linguistic personality. The author uses these units from her idiolect to depict the established Soviet education system, its paths to improvement, and to convey her thoughts on the crucial role of the teacher and student in this system, emphasizing their harmonious interaction. According to Vigdorova’s ideas, the student is a reflection of the teacher, their views, thoughts, and behavior.
