Conceptual component of the COURT concept

Abstract. The paper considers the COURT concept as one of the fundamental concepts of the English legal sphere. The paper examines the conceptual component of the COURT concept involving the material of lexicographic sources. The data obtained from etymological dictionaries revealed the origin of the lexeme COURT. The authors study the semantics of the lexeme COURT, analyse its definitions and functional components with legal meanings. The aim of the research is to identify the features of the conceptual component of the COURT concept using the methodology of three-component analysis of concepts. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that the conceptual component of the COURT concept is considered as one of the fundamental legal concepts using the material of the English language. As a result, it has been proved that the conceptual component of the COURT concept consists of the historical core, which includes such features as an enclosed place; a group of people surrounding the sovereign; a group of people with the privilege and right to resolve legal disputes; a courtroom, as well as general and additional characteristics. The elements of the judicial system and the participants in the judicial process correspond to general characteristics, while additional characteristics are represented by judicial actions and moral and legal qualities.
