Implementation of the Socio-Cultural Orientation Principle in Teaching Foreign-Language Pronunciation at the University

Abstract. This article is an interdisciplinary study of the currently relevant problem of co-studying language and culture in the aspect of linguodidactic interpretation of the sociocultural orientation principle of teaching foreign-language pronunciation. The aim of the study is to develop methods and techniques for implementing the principle of socio-cultural orientation in teaching foreign-language pronunciation at the university. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the description of the sociocultural orientation principle in relation to the phonetic aspect of the English language, the introduction of the new notion of “phonocultureme” into the practice of teaching foreign-language pronunciation at the university. As a result, it is proved that the analysis of the features of cultural meanings manifestation in the system of phonetic means of English speech arrangement contributes to the definition of methods and techniques for teaching foreign-language pronunciation at the university, taking into account the principle of socio-cultural orientation.
