Role of Artistic Devices of Absurdity and Nonsense in Formation of Structural and Semantic Organization of Text (by the Material of L. Carroll’s “The Hunting of the Snark”)

Abstract. The aim of the study is to rethink the structural and semantic organization of the English writer Lewis Carroll’s “The Hunting of the Snark” by contrasting the phenomena of nonsense and absurdity. The article presents an analysis of original passages from the poem based on the identification and justification of the relationship between the complex grammatical and syntactic structure of the text and its lexical units. The scientific novelty lies in the consideration of the phenomena of nonsense and absurdity as artistic devices, as well as in the description of their ability to complement each other in the process of meaning generation. As a result, it is proved that each of these techniques in its own way affects the structural and semantic organization of the poem text expanding its interpretative potential.
