English-Language Influence on the Process of New Words Emergence in the Modern German Language (Based on Dictionaries of Neologisms Related to the Coronavirus Pandemic Theme)

Abstract. The aim of the study is to determine how the English language influences the process of new lexemes emergence in modern German based on the material of dictionaries of neologisms related to the topic of COVID-19. The scientific novelty lies in the identification of the mechanisms of the English-language influence when German neologisms appear. As a result, it is proved that the English influence is manifested in the borrowing of whole words, components for the formation of hybrid compound words and pseudo-borrowings, as well as the word-formation model of complex syntactic words. To replenish the vocabulary of the German language, the interaction of the processes of borrowing, word formation and semantic derivation is typical.
