Cognitive-Style Approach to Studying Translator’s Linguistic Personality (Experimental Research)

Abstract. The aim of the study is to ascertain the cognitive style influence on a translator’s linguistic personality and their translation activity. The article presents an experiment aimed at characterizing a linguistic personality’s intentional level and their translation strategies depending on the cognitive style. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that for the first time the theory of cognitive styles is used to explain the features of translation activity and a translator’s linguistic personality. As a result, it has been found that the nature of translation activity and the choice of translation solutions are determined by a linguistic personality’s cognitive-style parameters, such as cognitive complexity or cognitive simplicity.
