Discursive Characteristics of Rhetorical Questions in Oral Speech in the German and Russian Languages

Abstract. The aim of the study is revealing similarities and differences in the use of rhetorical questions in spoken communication in the German and Russian languages. The rhetorical question in this article is analysed from the point of view of its discursive characteristics in spoken German- and Russian-language communication. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the fact that the author for the first time conducts a comparative analysis of discursive characteristics of rhetorical questions in spoken German- and Russian-language communication. As a result of the research, it has been discovered that most characteristics of rhetorical questions in the German and Russian languages coincide. The only exception is frequency of situational rhetorical questions.
