Abstract. The research objectives are as follows: to reveal the peculiarities of using Arabic script to transfer Spanish phonemes in Aljamiado texts, to identify Arabic letters which are hardly used in such texts. The author analyzes Aljamiado orthography, identifies Arabic letters which are hardly used in Aljamiado texts, and herein lies scientific originality of the study. As a result, it is shown that some Arabic letters are hardly used both in Morisco Aljamiado (the language of Muslims who fell under control of Spain after the Reconquista) and Mozarabic Aljamiado (the language of Andalusian Christians), though Morisco Aljamiado texts have conventional nature and are written in Spanish, whereas Mozarabic Aljamiado texts are written in Arabic using transliteration.
