Lexical Meaning of Anthroponyms in the English Language

Abstract. The purpose of the study is to determine the composition of the lexical meaning of various types of anthroponyms in the English language. The scientific novelty is determined by a new point of view concerning the problem of the lexical meaning of proper names that consists in the fact that the structure of the lexical meaning depends on the specific type of anthroponyms. The results of the study demonstrate that the personal names of the epic discourse have a complete semantic structure. Modern personal names are characterized by semantic reduction to a referential element. Emergence of informal names fills the loss of the lexical meaning of a proper name. Functioning in parallel with the personal name, they have complete semantic structure.
