Marriage Theme in Stories by L. Petrushevskaya "Little Fearsome" and Eileen Chang "The Golden Cangue" (Comparative Aspect)

Abstract. The article focuses on studying Russian and Chinese women’s prose. The paper aims to reveal the peculiarities of marriage theme representation in the stories by L. Petrushevskaya "Little Fearsome" and Eileen Chang "The Golden Cangue". For the first time the researcher analyzes these stories through the lenses of modern comparative studies, reveals the specificity of artistic world of Russian and Chinese culture bearers, and herein lies scientific originality of the study. The conducted research allows identifying common and specific features of marriage theme representation in these literary works. The following conclusions are justified: both the authors remain non-evaluative; in their works, marriage is deprived of its sacred status and divine essence. Contrary to Eileen Chang, Petrushevskaya proposes a new interpretation of mythological and historical images.
