Connotative Features of a Person Naming in the American Prison Slang

Abstract. The article aims to identify connotative features of a person naming in the American prison slang taking into account emotional, evaluative and stylistic components of their semantics, which create an expressive effect. Scientific novelty of the research lies in analysing, for the first time, connotative semantics of a person naming in prison slang of the American language areal. The results of the study have shown that the stylistic component of the slang naming meaning determines emotional-evaluative colouring, which can significantly modify the logical-thematic content of a word. It is highlighted that emotional-evaluative and expressive components of a lexeme meaning are primarily realised through figurative semantic reinterpretation.
