Comparative Study of Synonymic Relations within Semantic Field "Успех" / "Success" in the Russian and English Languages

Abstract. The paper aims to provide a comparative analysis of the Russian and English lexical units of the semantic-synonymic field "Успех" / "Success", to identify synonymic rows and to classify the basic types of synonyms. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that the author for the first time provides a comprehensive analysis of synonymic relations within the semantic field "Успех" / "Success" in the Russian and English languages. The research findings are as follows: the author identifies and analyses five synonymic rows in the semantic field "Успех" and eight synonymic rows in the semantic field "Success", differentiates ideographic, stylistic and absolute synonyms. It is ascertained that ideographic synonyms prevail, whereas stylistic synonyms are least frequent.
