Representation of Communicative-Pragmatic Frame "Intellect" in the English and Russian Paroemiological Worldviews

Abstract. The research objective includes analysing representation of the communicative-pragmatic frame "intellect" in the English and Russian proverbs, which are considered as phraseological means expressing national stereotypes and ethnical worldview. Scientific originality of the study involves a comprehensive analysis of the English and Russian paroemias evaluating intellectual abilities of an individual as a representative of a certain community. The research material includes the English and Russian paroemias containing the component "wit - foolishness". The research findings are as follows: the authors identify universal and nationally specific conceptions of the value of knowledge, intellect; show interrelation between the level of an individual’s intelligence and his behaviour, luckiness; reveal correlation of the notions "intelligence" and "alcohol", "age", "wealth", "happiness".
