Abstract. The article aims at finding new parallels between Charles Dickens’s "Bleak House" and Fyodor Dostoevsky’s "The Brothers Karamazov". After a thorough research of literature on the issue, the author, analysing the texts in a completely new way, finds much in common between the two novels: from certain characters to the basic plot construction. The obtained results show it was widespread European archetypes that Dostoevsky borrowed from Dickens. "The Brothers Karamazov’s" philosophical foundation is unique: the figure of Grand Inquisitor becomes a centre of a "wider plot" - the one the English novel does not have. The theory of declining aristocracy with its "dandyism" opposed to ordinary people’s values cannot be admitted a part of Dickens’s influence for Dostoevsky came to a similar theory before him.
