Means to Express Temporality in the Russian and Chinese Languages

Abstract. The article provides a comparative analysis of linguistic means to express temporality in the Russian and Chinese languages. Relying on the analysis of newspaper texts, the author tries to identify specificity of temporality expression in the languages under study. Scientific originality of the paper lies in the fact that the researcher summarizes interlingual differences in the choice of temporal units and explains their causes. The findings indicate that interlingual differences in temporality expression manifest themselves in the choice of a time-reference point and appropriate linguistic means. Substantial differences are conditioned by language peculiarities.
