The Documentary and the Artistic in the Novel "Oona & Salinger" by Fr?d?ric Beigbeder

Abstract. The article aims to examine specificity of interaction of documentary and artistic elements in the XXI-century prose. The research is based on Fr?d?ric Beigbeder’s novel "Oona & Salinger" (2014) where reliability of presented information is justified by extra-plot elements: letters, topographic coordinates, famous people’s names, the narrator’s image and references to literary and mass cultural myths. For the first time the paper considers principles of correlation of fiction and non-fiction, identifies their functions, traces mechanisms of an artistic image formation. F. Beigbeder’s experiments with documentary sources are considered as an important and necessary stage in evolution of the novel genre.
