Variability of Linguistic Means to Express Directive Speech Acts (by the Material of the French Language)

Abstract. The article examines the problem of variability of the linguistic means expressing directive speech acts by the material of the modern French detective novel "An Apartment in Paris" by the popular writer Guillaume Musso. The policemen’s discourse full of vivid and emotional dialogues was chosen as the research material. The research objective is to identify directive speech acts and to classify them depending on the parameters of a communicative situation. The analysis of Musso’s novel resulted in identifying 22 directive speech acts and allowed concluding on variability of the linguistic means used to express them.
