Lexicalization of КОНЬ (HORSE) Concept in the Kuban Cossacks’ Songs

Abstract. The paper aims to reveal specificity of lexico-semantic representation of КОНЬ (HORSE) concept in the Kuban Cossacks’ lyrical, ballad, prison, wedding, ritual, round dance, dance and humorous songs. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that the author for the first time provides a comparative analysis of the basic representatives of the common Russian concept КОНЬ - lexemes "конь" and "лошадь" - by the material of the Kuban Cossacks’ song folklore. The findings indicate that in the Kuban Cossacks’ songs, these lexemes acquire additional meaning "wealth". Moreover, the lexeme "конь" acquires the meanings "inner circle member", "bridegroom symbol", "Cossack’s friend". Both the lexemes have a positive emotional evaluation. Semantic differences between the words "конь" and "лошадь" disappear; the lexemes become full synonyms, but the most frequent lexeme "конь" has much broader metaphoric potential.
