Abstract. The article focuses on comparing the English and Russian somatic codes manifesting themselves through the kinetic-somatic phraseological units of the mentioned languages. The authors examine phraseological units "raise (lift) one’s eyebrows" / "поднять брови" , "narrow one’s eyes" / "прищурить глаза" , "cock one’s head" / "наклонить голову набок" , "purse one’s lips" / "надуть губы" , "bite one’s lips" / "закусить губу" and others, which have not been previously investigated. The findings indicate both the similarity of national stereotypic conceptions about the meaning of certain gestures and mimics and the essential differences regarding the range of emotions manifested by them.
