FUNCTIONAL-SEMANTIC CATEGORIES OF NATAL SUPERSTITIONS

Abstract. The article examines the principles of forming natal superstitions. A structural semiotic analysis clearly shows that they are formed on the basis of structural-semiotic models. These models include the actualized features of binary semantic oppositions, in which the signifier and the designatum of superstitions are realized. At the verbal level, structural-semiotic models acquire high-value cultural codes and lexical filling. The criterion to refer a natal superstition to a certain functional-semantic category involves the identity of the semantic features of structural-semiotic models or isofunctionality of the signifier features in relation to the designatum.
