SURREALISTIC FIGURATIVENESS OF YU. MAMLEEV’S PROSE (BY THE MATERIAL OF THE SHORT STORY "CURRENCY")

Abstract. The article is devoted to analyzing the surrealistic tradition realization in Yu. Mamleev’s short story "Currency". It is ascertained that the prosaist synthesizes the surrealistic tradition (reference to the unconscious and subconscious, motive of dream) with the Gothic elements (creating the atmosphere of the scary, horrible). In this connection, the key features of the short story are as follows: combination of the irrational with the naturalistic character of representation; developing the motive of the deceased and depicting deadmen; the hero’s existence at the border of dream/reality, life/death; presenting the intersection of the real world and the unreal one, which the personages try to comprehend.
