EVOLUTION OF "BLACK/WHITE" DICHOTOMY IN THE NATIONAL COLOUR TERM SYSTEM

Abstract. The article considers national specificity of the concepts WHITE and BLACK in the Russian and English languages. Phraseological units with the component "черный/black" and "белый/white" are analysed. The analysis allows concluding about the interrelation of language, culture and ethnic tradition. Theoretical and practical study leads to the conclusion that phraseological units with the component "черный/black" and "белый/white" belong to the ancient stratum of vocabulary and help to reveal the specificity of the national culture. Deeper understanding of these phraseological units allows their more accurate use in the modern language.
