Abstract. " The Grammar of the Castilian language " (1492) by Antonio de N?brija occupies a worthy place in the history of the Spanish linguistic thought. The paper deals with the main grammatical postulates concerning the syntactic features of the Castilian language. N?brija’s Grammar is a set of rules and norms of the national language; nevertheless in real medieval texts, these norms could be violated. By the example of the Old Spanish formal letters (which are also peculiar authoritative sources of language use), the authors identify the cases of syntactic norms "violation" established in the Grammar .
